Position Overview

As a VFX Artist Intern (SideFX Labs/Games) your main role is to author compelling effects for real-time applications.


As a Houdini advocate, during your internship you will have the chance to communicate Houdini’s value and features to our games customers.


As an out of the box thinker, you are comfortable exploring new workflows that solve problems. You are an excellent listener who takes the time to understand what requirements need to be met for the assigned project.


Throughout the internship, you will have the opportunity to boost your Houdini skills and potential to strengthen your industry knowledge and exposure.


As part of the Technical Consulting Team, you will also work closely with R&D, Sales, Marketing and Education.                             

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create art-directable effects that are optimized for a real-time environment
  • Implement VFX in a real-time environment such as Unity or Unreal
  • Learn existing tools and workflows in Houdini
  • Be a champion of our company and represent SideFX to the larger game community
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

  • Fluency in using Houdini for the creation of VFX
  • Experience with one of the following Houdini areas: Pyro, RBD, FLIP, or Vellum
  • Experience using Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Knowledge of visual arts theory, color, composition and layout
  • Must be able to create and present content in Houdini fluently
  • Ability to work and operate collaboratively in a small team
  • A demonstrated passion to learn and create VFX
  • Ability to respond well to feedback in a style you may encounter in production


Not required but great to have


  • Knowledge of Niagara particle system in UE5
  • Basic understanding of runtime performance requirements for created assets
  • Basic knowledge of VEX
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Experience creating learning material or teaching production software
  • Knowledge of the 3D environment art pipeline

Location 

This is an on-site role in our head office located in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Our transit-friendly office is open-concept with a relaxed style that includes casual dress, and wraparound views from the 14th floor.
